Creeks & Streams:
The many creeks and streams are quite beautiful but do carry large quantities of water during rainy periods.   The city and the homeowners association, SLPC, asks that you help keep the creeks and streams clear of debris and trash.

It is also against the law to drain gray water, such as from washing machines, directly into the streams since they support fish and wildlife and serve as a watershed for our aquifers.

The original development of Grey Forest was called Scenic Loop Playground.   A historic plaque commemorating the City beginnings with development is across from City Hall.

T
he city  now sponsors curbside brush pickup for plant and tree debris up to 5 inches in diameter.   This happens at least once a year.   There is a limit of one 4x5x8 feet (pickup truck size) pile of brush for free pickup but  fee can be paid for each additional pile..  Brush pickup is conducted by our City Public Works and will be scheduled for a street at a time.

The city also sponsors a metal and junk drop off once a year.   Citizens may bring their metal objects, appliances, etc. to the drop off site.

Police:
The City has a police department that patrols the area and keeps crime rate low.   There are two full time officers.
Speed limits are strictly enforced as well as a juvenile curfew prohibiting minors under 17 being on the streets or in open establishments after 11:00 PM.   The Police Chief is Bubba Rutledge.

Oak Wilt and Tree Cutting Permits:
Oak Wilt is a preventable hazard that kills many varieties of oak trees especially Live Oaks.  The devastating effect of Oak Wilt can be seen driving down Scenic Loop Road toward Boerne and other places in the Hill Country.

It is started with a cut or wound to the tree and entry of a small beetle.  It can be prevented by always "painting" oak cuts within a few minutes of the cut or break and limiting your cutting to the hot summer months when the oak wilt beetle is not as prevalent.  Do not cut during the February to June period.    Oak Wilt spreads from tree to tree via the intertwined root systems of Live Oaks.
More info on Oak Wilt.

Hired tree cutting services require a permit by the City for which the property owner is responsible.   Property owner cutting during February through June requires a permit.

Pets and Livestock:
City ordinance requires pets be registered and kept in fenced yards and on leash when outside the yard.    As appropriate for the animal, pets per city ordinance should have current rabies shots and wear a city tag.   Neutering is recommended.   Raising of livestock requires at least 2 acres.   4H and FFA may raise livestock but must check with city for permission and assuring requirements are met.
